South American Company Purchases System From The Shredder Company
Adelca says it hopes to have shredder installed by the third quarter of this year.
Scott Newell, chairman of The Shredder Company LLC, El Paso, Texas announces that Aceria Del Ecuador C.A. (Adelca), Quito, Ecuador, has purchased a TSC 80 SXS shredding plant to process 180,000 tons per year of locally generated scrap.Adelca operates an electric furnace steel mill producing long products in Ecuador. The company specializes in producing high quality steel wire as well as reinforcing bar (rebar).
According to an announcement by The Shredder Company, Adelca personnel say the investment of the shredder is a part of the company's strategy of improving the productivity and efficiency of their present steelmaking equipment.
Adelca says that the purchase of the shredder is part of a constant improvement, and the use of high quality shredded steel scrap will allow shorter turn times for heats from the electric furnaces. The shredder also will provide better chemistry and consistency in the steel quality produced.
The plant installation and startup is expected to be completed before this September.
"We are very proud to have been selected as the suppliers of this plant after the Adelca personnel did a worldwide search for the best equipment. We look forward to working with this skilled group to help them accomplish their goals," says Newell.

Each of these plants will yield more than 100 million tons of shredded scrap a year, effectively doubling the Chinese steel market's percentage of steel processed from scrap metal. We have been pleased to do business with Feng Li and wish them many more succesful years to come.Trends in the Production and Use of Shredded Steel Scrap
And some of the implications for its producers and consumers.
It is generally useful to understand a speaker's point of view so that you can make some judgment as to his particular set of prejudices. In my case, I am Chairman of The Shredder Company, LLC, which manufactures scrap steel shredding equipment and which also operates an electric furnace steel foundry. I am Chairman of Newell Recycling Company of El Paso which operates a complete scrap processing facility with a shredder installation. This means that the companies with which I am involved, buy, process, and sell scrap steel, consume scrap in an electric furnace and manufacture equipment for scrap preparation. Sometimes, I do not know which side of the table I should be occupying, or which hat I should be wearing, but it does tend to keep me balanced. AMM Scrap Conference, November 2007
It is interesting that there is a renewal of the old discussion regarding the advantages of shredding with a large shredder compared with smaller shredders. At The Shredder Company, during the past year, we have taken orders for 4 smaller shredders and 7 large shredders. That might indicate a preference for large machines but the locations and the circumstances for each plant differ greatly and need to be examined for clues as to how the next individual should make this decision. Before the discussion of whether or not the new shredder should be large or small, it is probably a good idea to look at whether a new shredder is a good idea in any event. Confessing our prejudice as manufacturers of shredding equipment, we believe that, of course, the world needs lots of new efficient shredders of all sizes but it will be worthwhile to examine some facts to double check our selves.
